Good-day
Good-day
Do you like my hat?
No I do not.
Good-bye
Good-bye
Oh, sorry, I must be reading too many Dr. Seuss books to my daughter. I am really here to talk about my little excursion to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I had to take my car to Halifax for a service check and I wanted to check out a person who sells spice blends at the Halifax Market. I needed a place to stay in Halifax. So I called C (name withheld by request) and asked if she had a place to stay. A few weeks before, I had met her again at my fathers funeral, she is a friend of my sisters who I haven’t seen since the early 80’s. She also went to NSCAD with my sister a few years after I did. I called her and told her my appointment for the car was Friday and the market was Saturday morning, and asked if she had a place for me to stay. She said yes, her visiting friend from Montréal would be leaving before I got there. So we made plans for me to call when I arrived in Halifax.
I dropped my daughters off at my mother’s in Moncton and said I would be back Saturday afternoon to pick them up. I arrived at the dealers around 12:30 and decided to leave the car there for the night, as there was no parking on her street and she only had place for their car in the driveway. The dealer had a shuttle service and the guy drove me to C‘s house. It was around 1:30 by the time I got there and she said she had taken the afternoon off. She introduced me to her ‘significant other’, I love English…do I say partner (or is it now reserved for gays), husband (are they married?...I never asked) or live-in garbage taker-outer? So after a bit we decided to go downtown and see NSCAD, B said he would drive us so that saved us a bus ride.
We had a look in the Anna Leonowens Gallery at some of the finishing students work, then a tour of the bookshop and talked a lot about our times there. We then strolled the waterfront…first stopping at the Argyle Fine Arts store (saw a cool painting of anæmic cows on stilts), then ending up at the Superstore beside the Halifax train station. By this time the talk had turned to food, I had said I would cook supper. No pork, no fat…so I settled on tomato pie. After the groceries we walked down Barrington to Spring Garden, then up to the corner of South Park. At this point, C decided to phone home and see if B would come and get us. No answer, so with shopping bags in hand…no we did not walk the hour to her house (it was a gorgeous 12°C and I had my winter jacket), we walked over and got a taxi.
So next morning we went downtown to the Market. I found my spices and bought a few gifts for the girls & my mother. All & all I had a great time…nice to get out of my bubble once and a while.
So before I go, I noticed the “King of Donair” shop on Quinpool a few times and the other day Emily wanted garlic fingers. I found this site about donairs, a very Halifax / Maritime / Greek fast food. I lived on these in Moncton for a while, with extra hot-peppers of course.
