Here is a recipe for a traditional Acadien dessert that is like a cross between cinnamon rolls and sticky buns. ‘Nun’s farts’ is the literal translation, so here you go Patrick. I will make them, maybe, later this afternoon and make any adjustments.
Ingredients – dough;
- 3 cups flour
- 6 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ cup lard (shortening)
- 1 cup milk (thereabouts)
Ingredients – filling;
- butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup water
Technique:
- Pre-heat oven to 375°F.
- Mix all the dry ingredients.
- Cut in the lard.
- Gradually add the milk until it makes a nice dough.
- Roll-out thin, but not as thin as a pie crust.
- Butter the dough with the softened butter.
- Cover with the brown sugar about ¼ inch thick.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon on the sugar.
- Roll-up the dough and cut into rolls ½ inch thick.
- Place the water in a baking dish.
- Put the roll in the dish and cook until golden, about 30 minutes.
A variation, replace the sugar & cinnamon with cranberry sauce.
Enjoy!!!
