Web Pages That Suck

I started out doing a search for ‘web design 1996‘ to see some bad web designs. I was doing this because a friend has asked me to look at his site and come up with a nice design. I am not putting any links up to his site…yet. Then I found this, Vincent Flanders’ Web Pages That Suck, I especially liked the quote from the article about the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago article, “What is it about architecture sites. So many of them are equally stupid. Reminds me of the old saying, “If architects built buildings the way web designers built architectural web sites, the first woodpecker that came along would destroy civilization.” “

Another one, is the Microsoft Ms Dewey search site. Is she annoying or what…I love Paris & NYC and can handle their arrogance, but this one will die a bad death, I hope.

Vincent’s comments: People in the computer industry complain when Microsoft “borrows” ideas from Apple and other companies. Ms. Dewey is a perfect example of why they borrow. When try to come up with something original, it sucks worse than a broken vacuum cleaner.

The first rule of web design is “Don’t use any design element that gets in the way of the user solving their problem.” Ms. Dewey’s only reason for existing is to get in your way…Obviously, these Microsoftians didn’t see documentary “Spinal Tap” or they would have remembered the classic line, “ It’s such a fine line between stupid, and clever.”

There are a lot more, but on to something else…
