Computers Ahhh!!!
5 December 2006, 11:41
So I am in the process of recovering & reinstalling after my 2nd computer crash in less than 3 months. This one wasn’t as bad as the one in September, but I still lost a few files. How did computers become the muscle-cars of the 21st century? More on this another time…back to my day yesterday.
In September I reinstalled the original OS & software that came with my Sony VAIO. The only problem is that I then have to uninstall all the software, that comes pre-installed, that I don’t use. So as my computer was trying to start…then shut down & restart…then shut down & restart…then shut down & restart…then shut down & restart…then shut down & restart…then shut down & restart…well after 20 minutes of that, I ask myself, Self “what do I do?”.
What do I do? My mother phoned as I was pondering my options and after I told her my situation, she said “you should by a Mac”. I know, but it is the cost of all the software and the Mac I would want, the new MacPro, well, to get the options I would want, I don’t have the funds right now.
As I dismiss that idea, the only logical thing is reinstall the OS and take the loss of files as another new beginning. So I have a bunch of options; I did have OSX running on my PC, no good all new software again. SusE Linux, again the software thing, but at least most is open source, so I could function. Well back to Microsoft, so what are my options here? I have my original Windows Media Edition, XP Pro 64, trial, & I have a copy of Vista RC1. Well a new day, according to Microsoft, is dawning. So the winner is…Vista.

So far the software installation is going good. Some software that didn’t install under Vista Beta2, that I tried for awhile on a 2nd HD, installed last night. A few more CD’s left, then all the little add-ons & programs that we get used too. Like Firefox for browsing, even though I like IE7, finally tabs and CSS support. I do notice that the spacing of my left navigation is larger in IE7 than Firefox, but hey it is my site and I will do with as I please. So back to getting my computer up to scratch…got to get some work done before Sinterklaas, lol.
