I think we all know, well all Christian-based people know, that Christmas is 11 days away. With this knowledge and the fact that Améthyste had the day off of school, we decided, I decided and they went along with me…for once, to brave the mall and go Christmas shopping.

So we got up, Améthyste wanted to sleep-in, but she did get up around 9:30, got all the cleaning done, us (as in showers, shaving, hair brushed and clothes put on that are suitable to be seen in public with)  and not the dishes or laundry. I had talked to my mother, who agreed to take the girls while I shopped for them alone, and we decided to meet at her house around 2:00pm. We checked our lists, checked them twice, just to see who was naughty or nice. Then off to face the hoard of shoppers. It went fairly well, no blood shed and just a few doubts about what to get for so-and-so and so-and-so’s husband. I think I did fairly well, considering shopping is not my forté and when there are hoards of people it makes it even worse.

We met back at my mother’s about 5pm, I ordered Chinese food for me & the girls and then we headed home.

After all that, I did have enough dimes left to buy a valpolicella, which is being drunk really slow to ease the bruises from the Arnold Schwarzenegger moves used on that shopping cart lady who was trying to beat me to the last Cabbage Patch doll. Since her purse had more dimes than my pocket and I couldn’t tear my pocket off quick enough to counter her upper-cut, I decided to go for the play-doh & finger paint instead. I was lucky enough that my mother had the girls, so I could wander around the Barbi section un-noticed. I think someone spotted me when my fake moustache and Groucho-glasses fell off. Also the fact that I figured dressing in drag to do the Toy-R-Us shopping was a good idea, and that I forgot to remove above said disguise…well created some funny stares.

All in all a fun time was had by family, shoppers and cashiers alike, even if the cashiers didn’t smile much.
